Checking Your Name Server
Getting Started Guide

2.
Check the order of resolving Internet domain names by reviewing the
Information source field.
The normal order is host, nis, dns. This means that first your local hosts
file (/etc/hosts) is searched to resolve the domain name to an IP address,
then the NIS database is checked, and lastly the DNS server is accessed
via your network connection.
3.
If you want to change the order of this process, choose the button
labeled host, nis, dns and rearrange the order.
4.
Check the address of your DNS server as shown in the DNS server
field.
5.
If you need to update the DNS server address or add another DNS
server, click on the button that contains the address.
A dialog box opens where you can define DNS servers by their IP
addresses. (See Figure 62.)
FIGURE 62. You can define DNS servers by entering their IP addresses in this
dialog box.
NOTE: It’s a good idea to have at least two DNS servers
listed in this dialog box. If one DNS server is unavailable for
some reason, your system can query the other DNS server to
resolve domain names.
6.
Add additional servers or edit the selected DNS server address by
selecting items on the Edit menu.
